The Apple Watch Series 1 was originally released in 2016 as a replacement for the first generation and was released along side the Series 2. The Apple Watch Series 1 featured a dual core 520Mhz Apple S1P with 8GB of flash storage and 512MB of memory. The Apple Watch Series 1 was available in 38mm or 42mm sizes both of which featured Retina OLED displays (272x340 38mm, 312x390 42mm) The Apple Watch Series 1 had support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n at 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, a single microphone, a single speaker, a magnetic charging port for wireless charging and a built-in 205mAh (38mm), 246mAh (42mm) rechargeable lithium polymer battery. It was also IPX7 water resistant up to 1 meter for 30minutes.

Like its predecessor the Apple Watch Series 1 featured a heart rate sensor built into the Digital Crown on the underside of the watch. The watch strap was also easily removable so that straps could be swapped in and out.

The Apple Watch Series 1 was only available in one model which had an aluminium housing and was available in Silver, Space Grey, Gold and Rose Gold finishes.
