The iPad 3 was originally released in 2012 as a replacement for the iPad 2. The iPad 3 featured a dual-core 1GHz Apple A5X SoC with 64KB of L1 cache (32KB instruction + 32KB data) and 1MB of L2 cache, 1GB of LPDDR2 memory and a quad-core PowerVR GPU. The iPad 3 could be configured with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of flash storage, Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and Cellular connectivity and was available in black and white finishes. When the iPad 3 was first released it was known as ‘The New iPad’, the iPad 3 would have the shortest lifespan of any iPad line-up as it was released, discontinued and replaced all within eight months in 2012.
The iPad 3 featured a 9.7” LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch 2,048x1536 (264 ppi) display, support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n Bluetooth 4.0 and 4G networks (region dependant), 3.5mm headphone jack, a 30-pin dock connector. The iPad 3 would be the last iPad to use the 30-pin dock connector. The iPad 3 has two cameras a front 0.3 MP FaceTime camera capable of 30 frames/s video recording and a rear 5 MP iSight camera capable of 720p HD video recording at 30 frames/s, with Autofocus and tap to focus. The iPad 3 has a built-in 42.5Wh rechargeable lithium-polymer battery capable of up to 10 hours of battery life.
